Counselling is a form of talking therapy. It provides a space free of judgement and criticism for you to process thoughts, feelings and situations, to take a step back and gain new perspectives on issues, and to potentially learn more about yourself.
It is not advice-giving or 'being told what to do'. A counsellor's role is to actively listen and reflect with you on what you bring to sessions.
As humans, we long for and need to feel connection to others and to the world around us. It’s often this connectedness that can get lost in today’s hectic lives leading to ‘dis-ease’ and disillusionment. I work relationally, using our relationship to explore your past experience of relationship which will influence how you relate to yourself and others today. Building connection in a therapeutic relationship can offer healing; journeying inwards can help us see ourselves and our problems in new ways.
Often the feelings we are most afraid of have been cut off, leaving us feeling detached from our self. Exploring, understanding and reintegrating can help us feel part of our lives in a new way, where we no longer react, but respond.
It can be difficult to seek support, and I understand how daunting it can be to find the right person to work with, particularly if it is your first experience of therapy. Please feel free to contact me via email or phone if you have any questions. I offer a free 30-minute exploratory session (online or in-person) so we can ensure we are a 'good fit'.
